Why your WooCommerce products aren't showing up in ChatGPT Shopping

You sell good products, your store looks fine, and yet when you ask ChatGPT for something you clearly stock, it recommends someone else. This is one of the most common questions we hear, so here is the honest answer and what to do about it.

The short answer

ChatGPT and other AI assistants recommend products they can read with confidence. If your product pages lack valid structured data, a real brand, and a GTIN, the assistant cannot be sure what you are selling, so it plays it safe and names a competitor it understands. The fix is data, not design.

The usual reasons, in order

1. No valid Product JSON-LD. Your theme shows a price to a human, but there is no machine-readable Product block, or the one that exists is broken. Without it there is little for an assistant to read, so fix this first.
2. Duplicate, conflicting schema. WooCommerce core and an SEO plugin both output Product markup and they disagree. Two blocks with different prices or names make the data ambiguous.
3. Missing brand and GTIN. Without these, the assistant cannot match your item to "the best X under Y" the shopper asked for.
4. Unclear offer data. Price, currency and stock status are not stated in a way a machine trusts.
5. AI crawlers blocked. Your robots rules quietly block the crawlers these assistants use, so they never read the page at all.

Notice what is not on this list: your theme, your photos, your copywriting. All of those matter to people. The assistant reads the data behind them.

What to do

Start by finding out which of these apply to your products instead of guessing. Paste your store address or a product URL for a free 0 to 100 AI-readiness score with the specific issues listed. Check your store. You don't need an account or a card. Connect your store to check every product.

Then work through the fixes in order. The full walkthrough is in our guide: How to optimize a WooCommerce catalog for AI shopping assistants. For a step-by-step version with numbers from our scan of 96 Polish WooCommerce stores, read how to get ChatGPT to see the products in your store.
